Security and Defence

Copernicus support the EU's response to several security challenges.

Copernicus helps improving the surveillance of the EU's borders with the objective to reduce illegal immigration and to rescue more lives at sea. It also supports the EU external action by providing decision makers with geo-information on remote, difficult to access areas, where security issues are at stake.

In the domain of maritime surveillance, Copernicus contributes to navigation safety, supports fisheries control and law enforcement, and helps combatting marine pollution.

Copernicus can also contribute to the monitoring of critical infrastructures such as power plants, offshore platforms, pipelines, etc.
