Transport

Transport represents an important sector of the EU economy, and ensuring passenger safety is a priority for carriers, governments and local authorities.

Environmental hazards, such as volcanic eruptions or the presence of sea ice, can disrupt and impede transportation flows with considerable economic effects. Security-related hazards, such as piracy, are also a cause for concern. Copernicus provides numerous solutions to transport and safety issues.

In the case of maritime transport for instance, the information on currents provided by Copernicus can support ship routing services. Information on sea ice can also contribute to significantly improve navigation safety in Arctic regions.
