2017: A Year of Record-breaking Sea Surface Temperatures in the European Seas

The data processed by the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) for 2017 show a noticeable warming in summer and winter months along the Mediterranean and the Iberian coast.

 

In particular, the data provided by the in situ moorings deployed along these coasts and processed by the In Situ Thematic Assembly Center (INSTAC) of CMEMS, showed that June 2017 was especially warm, with record-breaking sea surface temperature values for 11 out of 35 moorings for the last 10 years.
